Fledgling

Fledgling - Octavia E. Butler I loved this book. Loved it. As I neared the end, I found myself craving a sequel. It breaks my heart to know that there wont be one. I loved what Butler did with the vampire mythology and how she intertwined those paranormal elements with issues of sexuality and race. To tell the story through the eyes on a young black female vampire was just amazing. I did check out some of the other reviews before I started and I saw that quite a few people were upset by the fact that Shori appears to be an 11 year old, but really her appearance as a child seemed relevant for the first chapter. Butler does a great job of nailing home the point that Shori is not a child and she certainly isn't human. She's the most in control, powerful character in the whole book and her relationship with her humans, which did have a sexual side, made complete sense. I think it's weird when their isn't a sexual element when it comes to a vampire feeding, but that's just me.A great a read that I would recommend to anyone who wants to add their paranormal library. Or anyone who wants to read a good books. :)
